Bio
Signija Joce is a scenographer / multidisciplinary artist from Latvia. Her work deals with environments that question perception, memory, and collective experience. Recurring themes in her practice are dissecting the human mind and it’s dark sides, looking at fragility, and instability, exploring the thin line between human and non-human.
Her latest work is nominated for “Best Small Scale Performance” at the Spēlmaņu nakts awards, and she herself is nominated as “Best Young Artist.”
She has studied Painting at the Art Academy of Latvia and Scenography and Costume Design at the Art Academy of Latvia & Weißensee Kunsthochschule Berlin. She has led set, puppet and costume design in theatre and film, made experimental 16mm films, and participated in varius international workshops, exhibitions and festivals (“Latvian Experimental” at WHS Teatteri Union, Helsinki (FI); “SURPRIZE”, Urbino (IT); “Border as a place: collisions in time”, Reykjavík (IS)).
